Stressed Out? Try this Smoothie and Blend your Way to Health Series 2

Blend Your Way to Health Blog Series 2

Healthy Medicinally Focused Smoothies.

While I was recovering from a nearly fatal auto-immune illness called mixed connective tissue disorder, I learned first-hand about the amazing medicinal qualities within our food. I want to share this knowledge with others. I’ll be introducing you to various healthy smoothie recipes in this blog series. Learn to use food as your medicine and you won’t need to fall prey to the vicious cycle of prescription drugs.

Stress and Anxiety are insidious critters, but there is a lot we can do for ourselves. Healthy Smoothies is a great one!

In this blog, I’d like to introduce you to a smoothie recipe that tastes great and actually helps to lift your mood. Stress is something that everyone encounters, and depending upon how we deal with it, it can lead to or exacerbate illness. However, there is much we can do for ourselves, including exercise, meditation, qigong, yoga, massage, reflexology, and more. There are also many foods and herbs that not only provide nutrition but also help to balance hormones and have a calming and anti-anxiety effect on our nervous system. With that in mind, I’ve put together a tasty, smoothie recipe that does indeed have the aforementioned beneficial qualities. I call it – “Happy Days.”

If you’re stressed out, try this great tasting medicinally, focused smoothie!Delicious Healthy Green Smoothie with Rosemary on Wooden Table

In order to create the smooth, silky consistency for these delicious smoothies, a powerful blender is required, such as the Vitamix, Blendtec, or in a pinch you can use the Magic Bullet. Please use organic ingredients, pesticides increase anxiety, not reduce it. Use more or less water to thin out or thicken your smoothie. If you’re using a Nutribullet you will have to halve the ingredients to fit into the device.

Introducing the Happy Days Smoothie!

Ingredients:

  • Cucumber – 3.5 oz.
  • Maca Root Powder – 1 TB
  • Cordyceps – 10 pieces or 1 capsule
  • Rosemary – 1-2 large sprigs
  • Carrot – 3 oz.
  • Apple – 5 oz.
  • Goji Berries – ½ oz.
  • Celery 2.5 oz.
  • Avocado – ¼
  • Almonds – ¼ cup
  • Ginger – ¼” by 1.5” slice
  • Lime – 1/8
  • Filtered Water – 1 ¼ cups
  • Ice Cubes – 6-8

Not only is this smoothie packed with nutrition and good for you anytime, many of the ingredients have an anti-anxiety effect and improve wellbeing. Cordyceps are an amazing tonic; it boosts virility, increases energy and stamina, improves breathing and decreases the effects of stress. Maca root acts to balance the hormones and is an incredible anti-depressant, mood-lifting food. Rosemary is excellent for anxiety and depression, it increases blood circulation to the brain and provides a sense of relaxation and calm. Celery is another wonderful food that lowers blood pressure and decreases anxiety. Goji berries have been shown to decrease the effects of stress and help depression.

I encourage to blend yourself a Happy Days smoothie and give yourself not only a physical lift, but an emotional one as well!
